Basic skills
At Kirkby on Bain Church of England Primary School, we are committed to ensuring that all pupils are equipped with the basic skills needed to succeed which is why we are proud to have been awarded the Primary Quality Mark. This award recognises good practice and progress in basic skills.
What are basic skills?
Basic skills are defined as: “The ability to read, write and speak in English and use mathematics at a level necessary to function and progress at work and in society in general”
Support for parents and carers
Parent/carer consultations
Parents and carers can make an appointment at one of our fortnightly parent/carer consultation sessions. During these meetings, teachers will give advice on how best to support their children at home. They will discuss the progress their children have made with regards to basic skills in literacy and mathematics.
Curriculum workshops
Parents and carers are invited to attend our curriculum workshops. Our aim is to provide parents and carers with the extra information they need to support their children in the development of basic skills.
